AT&T SIM Card

We recommend using AT&T because AT&T allows the use of their data network (for now) without buying a data plan. They will, instead, charge per kilobyte, which works out to $.01 (one cent) per location update. This is far less expensive than paying for a monthly data plan as would be required if using cell service through T-Mobile.

How to get an AT&T SIM card for use with the SpyBike or Spylamp 2

The easiest way is to purchase a SIM directly from AT&T for about $6.00 and activate right there in the store. You will also need to load an amount onto the SIM account. A credit of $25 will expire in 90 days and a credit of $100 will expire in one year. Do one or the other, but do not load $50 or $75 as this will expire in 90 days as well and with unused credit remaining on the account that will never be used. This is because however much credit is loaded onto the account, you will only actually use between $5 and $6 per month, which is deducted from your prepaid balance. Be sure to sign up for the $5 per month, 200 text message plan with automatic renewal. This will load 200 text messages every month onto your SIM and deduct $5 from your prepaid balance. If you want to be able to register this prepaid SIM account online, something that is very handy if you want to keep an eye on your prepaid balance or refill the SIM balance online, you will need to temporarily insert your SIM into an AT&T phone. This way you can receive your online password via text message, which is the only way AT&T can get this password to you. Yes it is dumb, but what large company isn't dumb in some way. Now, and this is very important, if you plan on using this SIM in a phone as just described, you will need to tell the sales person who sells you the SIM that it must be unlocked when activated. Often they will lock the SIM to one specific phone or device when it is activated, but make sure that they specifically UNLOCK THE SIM or it will not work in a phone and you will not be able to get your online password.
